Slip Rings and Fiber Optic Sensing: Complementary Technologies
TRION also supplies wired slip ring technology from Michigan Scientific Corporation (MSC), which is already used in Korean rotorcraft programs today, including KAI. Slip rings and fiber optic sensing serve complementary roles on rotating structures: slip rings provide a proven, high-channel-count path for transferring electrical power and signals across a rotating interface, while fiber optic sensing adds lightweight, EMI-immune strain measurement distributed directly along the rotating structure itself. TRION brings both technologies to Korean rotorcraft and aerospace programs, and helps customers match the right solution — or combination of solutions — to each application's requirements.
Our Fiber Optic Sensing Focus
TRION is currently building Korea's fiber optic strain-sensing pipeline for rotating structures — helicopter and drone rotor blades, structural health monitoring for national aircraft R&D programs, and automotive drivetrain applications. This includes active engagement with a major Korean rotorcraft OEM, a major automotive OEM's drone program, and a new national aircraft R&D program.
